Emily Korf has been the sole owner and designer for Elements and Principles since 2007 with the slogan: Affordable Interior Design Solutions. She has been published in Pioneer Press and is an award winning service provider on Angie’s List. Emily lives in Saint Paul with her husband and daughter, but travels anywhere someone needs her help. Emily believes her business has large growth potential because she’s catering to an under-served segment of the marketplace that puts a premium on affordability. “I have yet to meet an interior designer who does what I consider I do,” she said.Interior Designer Woodbury Minnesota, Interior design St Paul Minneapolis
Emily Korf’s biggest business challenge is that potential clients often assume she caters only to the rich. “As soon as I tell someone I’m an interior designer they automatically have this stereotypical thought that ‘I can’t afford you,’ ” she said. Emily then rushes to assure them that her clients shop Ashley Furniture and Ikea more often than Gabberts and Room and Board.
Half of the jobs Emily is hired to do are closet reorganizations. The others range from designing kitchens and bathrooms to arranging furniture in living rooms and basements, plus paint color consultations. She charges an hourly fee of $55. Most jobs involve a minimum of three hours. She does bill time periodically throughout longer more complex projects such as kitchen remodels. Emily often recommends contractors to her clients or they use their own. Clients pay contractors directly. She doesn’t want to be in the middle to ensure that her clients remain confident she’s not up-charging those services. Emily is also willing to shop wherever clients feel most comfortable with style and price. She likes the contemporary styles of Dania Furniture in Roseville. One of her favorite shops for accessories is Home Goods.
“I have one client who I recently worked with who said, ‘I love going to Home Goods but I see pumpkins and I see roosters and I get overwhelmed and I walk out,’ ” she said. That’s where she comes in. Interior Designer Woodbury Minnesota, Interior design St Paul Minneapolis
Emily’s passion and mission is to provide an aesthetically and functionally pleasing design for all budgets. She strives to always work in an ethical and moral manner, so that in all things God may be glorified. Interior Designer Woodbury Minnesota, Interior design St Paul Minneapolis Lake Elmo
